Playing Outside

Alex has this little beat up mickey mouse "riding" toy he had donated to him. It is really a piece of junk but he loves to push it around and put rocks in the compartment under the seat.

Pooh

This morning I went into Alex's room to get him out of bed and when he saw me he smiled and said "booh". I asked him if he wanted to see Winnie the Pooh and he smiled and laughed. This is a picture of Alex watching Pooh.

Jugando con Uzziel

This is one of Alex's buddies, Uzziel.

Fattening up FINALLY

In the past week Alex has gained 300 grams, which is almost a pound! Yeah. In baby weight, that is a lot. In adult weight, it's a couple of bowls of icecream..but anyhow... Alex is over his bronchitis and gaining weight. Even though he is still under on the charts, he is getting closer to "normal" in weight. He still needs to go up about 2-3 more pounds but we'll take it one day at a time. We literally spent the past week shoving food into his mouth anytime he wouldn't run away from us. I guess it worked.
Our doctor, Abel, is also a friend of ours. . . or I should say he is a friend of ours and that's why we chose him as our doctor. . . so every time we take Alex, we end up sitting and talking for an extra hour (Doctors appointments are WAY more laid back here and they will spend up to an hour with you at a checkup alone). The only time we don't stay and talk is if someone else is waiting for their appointment. Anyhow, as we sat chatting, Alex ran around the office, getting into everything. He pulled books off the shelves, pulled trash out of the bin, typed on the computer, threw down the mouse pad and dumped ALL the toys and puzzles onto the floor. So, Abel told us, even though he is a bit underweight, it is obvious that Alex is a normally developing little boy (hence the disaster he made of Abel's office)

Con mi Papi

Oh Ee Oh Ee Oh

That's how Alex sings the Old MacDonald song...I can't believe he sings it already but when I sing it with him, he sings "oh ee oh ee oh"! He is really growing so fast and learning so many new things everyday. He started saying NO today. Its so cute, he doesn't make a long o sound. It's a very subtle o, but he is definitely saying no :) I'm sure this will start becoming annoying when he starts telling us no in defiance, but for now it is SOOOO cute. He is a darling. He pushes his shopping cart all over the place, picking up random objects...headphones, a basketball, blocks, plastic spoons and anything else he can find.
He is definitely a Mexican tyke too...he loves rice and guisados. His abuelita makes him lentils with rice and he eats them up so fast. We haven't had so much luck with beans yet, although he did like the pork and beans he ate in the U.S. this summer...totally different thing altogether. You can't really compare sweet beans with black beans, but I'm sure he'll start eating them eventually...Oh, and he loves tortillas.
We are thinking about starting a gymboree class with him...maybe a playclass a few times a week. We just don't see too many children except on Sundays and that's only for an hour. I think he needs some socialization and I think at Gymboree they have climbing toys and things like that...I know I can take him to McDonald's just as easily, but the same kids won't be there everytime and I think it would be good for him to learn to play around the same kids every week or so.
I was just reading that the 15th month is a huge milestone in a baby's life...that they develop very quickly in this month and begin getting very independent. Since today he is 15 months old...we have a whole month to see if what I read is true. It seems to be already though, with just the things I saw him learn the past few days.
It has been wonderful to be able to go outside again... I never realized how blessed we are to have a nice backyard to play in until we had to sacrifice it for those four days. We have been spending a ton of time outside blowing dandelion fluffs and swinging and watching the butterflies and "playing ball". Thank God for the outdoors!

sunday

Today is day three in our four days of house confinement. Alex has stopped screaming everytime his papa leaves and shuts the door before he can escape outside. I think he's getting used to being inside all day. Poor little guy, he really does love to be outside, and I think it's so good for him to get out at least once a day! It's also been over two weeks since Daniel's car has been in the shop, meaning he is using mine and I am without a car. So, Alex and I have really been stuck at home for some time. It's ok though.
Alex seems to learn new words every single day. It's suprising to me since he is learning two languages...I didn't think he would have so many words in his vocabulary yet. They are all English except for agua. But if someone says Adios, he waves and says bah bah. (bye bye) He also knows that a vaca goes mooo and he blinks his eyes when someone tells him to make ojitos.
He also kind of hums along when he hears music...it's kind of hoarse and throaty sounding...so cute!

little chick

house arrest

We are stuck inside for the next FOUR days... Doctor's orders for keeping Alex from los cambios de temperatura....because he has bronchitis. I never realized how stressful it could be to have a sick child. I mean, before I would see friends staying home or missing events because their kids were sick and I am embarrassed to say I always kind of thought they used it as an excuse because they didn't want to go. But seriously, now I understand. It's like the world stops.
Poor thing...one minute he's dancing around, then the next minute he is so fussy I forget he's sick and just get really annoyed. Did I mention that I have NO patience. I know he feels bad. And on top of everything, once again we're feeling the pressure of him being underweight. The doctor said he needs to gain 1.5 kg and is a cm too short. How do you make a person grow! I mean, if he were a plant, I'd shoot some plant food in his soil and be done with it. But, getting a baby to eat...I mean, that's something you can't force.

bebe feliz

Alex

I can hear him now, up in his bed joyfully talking to himself, squealing then kind of fussing... He is probably wondering why I haven't gone to get him yet...then he gets distracted by his mirror or his cloth book. I keep thinking, he only slept an hour, maybe he'll go back to sleep for a little while longer. I just barely got the dishes washed. I always have so much to do at naptime...
It's hard to believe that it's been a year and almost 3 months since he came into our world. He is getting so big...although our doctor would disagree saying he is too thin and we should feed him ice cream and candy to fatten him up¿?¿¡! He is on the small side, but he's healthy and growing. He loves to pull on the roll of toilet paper until it sits in a wad on the bathroom floor. He also likes to collect piles of rocks and when I'm not looking, shove a few in his mouth. We listen to him in the morning, chatting to himself...he will often say "papá, pa pa pa pa PA!" then as an afterthought maybe he'll add a "mama" but papa is his favorite word. He also likes to say "TIIIIIIIIIIiktikitikitiki dikidikidikidtkahtkahtkahtkah" Today I asked him if he had some caca in his diaper and he mooed...I guess he thought I'd said vaca (which means cow). I think he understands most of what I say and the majority of what is said to him in Spanish.
